A week ago i had the privilege of meeting a fabulously talented young artist, singer, songwriter named Tori. This Adelaide lass is now based in L.A  and I was asked to do her hair and make-up for her stage performance at the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics!! It was held here in Adelaide and Tori (who was waring a gorgeous Alexis George dress) performed a duet with Mark Vincent! A week later she performed with Toby, the Adelaide teacher who was on Australian Idol at the closing ceremony. xoxoxox

Adelaide Magazine Shoot

One Thursday evening in January had me out on an old tug boat in Port Adelaide where 5 of Adelaide’s top models came on board to model “vintage swim wear”.

The shoot will appear in & on the cover of Adelaide Magazine, March edition. It comes out with the Advertiser newspaper each month. Be sure to look out for it!

Each swim suit was made exclusively for the shoot by local designers such as Razak & Liza Emanuele. Once again, Mr Dale Dorning directed the hair & make-up, drawing a nautical feel with on scalp braiding & hair pieces. Skin was very sun kissed and make-up was fresh and glowy!

My mate Mel came on board with the hair team as well as Craig from Tafe and the lovely Maria with make-up also.

Great team effort, great day shooting with the talented photographer David Solm

To top it off, Kirsty, one of our gorgeous models (wearing the halter neck Razak swim suit) features in January Italian Vogue!

Thanks to Emma at Adelaide Magazine for making it all happen. xx

On set filming Dale Dornings “FACE VALUE” DVD

At the end of last year i was asked to come and do all the hair

for Dale Dornings new Make-Up DVD “FACE VALUE”.  Dale Dorning is Adelaide’s Celebrity Hairstylist & Make-up artist for stars such as Delta Goodrem.

Ian Golding was the Videographer, who i was lucky enough to work with on the NAK photo shoot earlier last year. He is a real character and as soon as i walked in he goes “Oh bloody hell, Wakey…not you again!”. I have such a blast being on set with him he cracks me up 😉

After two 14hr days of filming, (in an apartment on Ebenezer Place in Adelaide), i was asked to jump in the hot seat and be the “eyebrow model” so i truly got my 15 mins of fame & my very own section on the DVD “eyebrow basics”.

It was an unforgettable experience.  Dale is a true artist, so great to watch!  I learned heaps and came away feeling very inspired!

Meeting Kate Ellis MP for Arthritis Australia

Last month I was contacted by Ainsley Cahill from Arthritis Australia………Why you may ask?………..

Ainsley is collaborating a book to create awareness about Arthritis. The book will feature black & white pictures and stories about everyday people living with Arthrits from all ages and walks of life. Ainsley chose someone to represent each state, who then got their hair and make-up done for their very own photo shoot with photographer Ross Coffee. Each person has their picture taken with their respective Member of Parliament, in this case it was Kate Ellis who is the Minister for Early Childhood Education, Child Care and Youth and Minister for Sport here in SA.  South Australia’s candidate for the book was a young girl called Sarah. (Since then, i have been called back to make-up a different girl called Renee as Sarah will no longer feature in the book for reasons I’m unaware of.)

The book is being officially launched at Parliament house in Canberra in March, and once it is all compiled i will receive my copy 😉

Kate Ellis is an incredibly busy, very well spoken, influential and professional young woman. Such a great opportunity to rub shoulders with her!

The shoot took place in her office and It was like a scene from a movie. I was busy blending into the background doing her hair and make-up whilst she was conducting an interview with Sarah and Ainsley.

After the shoot, Ross Coffee the photographer showed me his portfolio which was super impressive and included shots of the likes of many Hollywood A listers.

What a great opportunity to work with such great people for such worthy cause!

My 1 0n 1 with Dale Dorning

So………..Last Friday i hired the infamous Dale Dorning for 4 hours to tap into his brain and learn some make-up tricks and techniques from the master himself. Dale has worked as a succesful hairstylist & make-up artist for years, and celebrities he called friends include Delta Goodrem, Rikki Lee, Sophie Monk just to name a few. He is the first guy “they” call whenever the big celebrities come to town for music shows, stage shows or just celebrity appearances. The dude is a genius at the “no make-up, make-up”, at glowing skin, and at making theses celebrity ladies look almost super human by layering different textures of foundations, powders, luminisers, highlighters and shading. I was exhausted after the 4 hours (i did 3 models, where he did 1/2 the face & i the other). I was like a 4 year old sitting on the edge of the chair listening to a class held by Elmo. I loved every second of it! The photo’s didnt turn out great, but i just wanted to see how the skin looked on camera. (my poxy wee camera). This was all practice for a photoshoot i’m doing with Dale and one of his well know Photographer friends where i get a top Adelaide Model to “paint” and professional pics for my portfolio.

Noir Show with Dale Dorning

Two weeks ago I was asked to direct the hair team backstage at a fashion show called “Nior”.  The creative force behind the hair and make-up design was by none other than Adelaide’s own Dale Dorning, an idol of mine 😉 What an experience! The look was inspired by Robert Palma’s simply irresistable ladies. I had a ball. The 30 models from Pride & Finesse agencies worked the runway wearing designs from Tim O’Conner, Nicola Finetti, Camille, Miss Unkon & many more of Australia’s top high fashion designers. models looked great and Dale is very talented man. The night was sponsored by Moet & Chandon, Gerard McCabe Jewelers and was held Living Edge Showroom on Pulteney Street in Adelaide City. Oh what a night…..

NAK photoshoot

Me doing the final touches to steve's hair on location

Me doing the final touches to steve's hair on location

Last month i was lucky enough to get flown up to Brisbane to help coordinate a photoshoot with 6 models. The location of the shoot was in a massive million dollar mansion in Raby Bay (where Narnia was being filmed also)! Without a doubt the coolest pad ive ever been in! I styled most of the shoot, along with a team of 3 helpers. Steve flew up with me also & modeled in the shoot which was sweet! Working with Ian Golding, one of Australia’s top photographers was an awesome experience!

Happy 30th Helen

The lovely Helen Farinola & her sister Karen hired me to sex up their hair and make-up for Helen’s 30th birthday bash on Saturday night. Helen’s Balmain hair pieces which i colour matched gave her a Hollywood down wave style, (inspired by Elle McPhearson’s red carpet look) and metalic silver eyes smouldered all night! Its always a pleasure making Helen up, she is one of my regulars! Luv ya babe 😉
